Everyones list will be different. It will be in everyones experience what were your top 10 most difficult games. here is my list:

1.Ninja Gaiden (Nintendo)
2. Bayou Billy (Nintendo)
3. Robocop (Nintendo)
4. Battletoads (Nintendo)
5. Castlevania (Nintendo)
6. Ninja Gaiden 2 (Nintendo)
7. Ghouls & Ghosts (Arcade)
8. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turles (Nintendo)
9. Double Dragon (Arcade and Nintendo)
10. Shinobi (Arcade and Neo-Geo)

Now Bayou Billy could have taken top spot but i have spent at least 1 month at least to complete Ninja gaiden. most games take me a few days depending on how much time i have. unless its an RPG. i usually wanna take my time

Games that almost made the top 10:

Zelda 2
Contra (please keep in mind without the up,up , down,down,left,right,left,right select, start. you would only have 3 lives)
Devil May Cry
Devil May Cry 3
Shinobi (Playstation 2) extremely difficult but manageable.
