6. Maria Bamford

Bamford has made clinical depression and family dysfunction the currency of big belly laughs, working a quirky combination of self-deprecating jokes, comic impersonations, and surrealism into a tapestry of non-stop ;laugh-til-it-hurts routines. Her onstage friends and rivals frequently point to her as “the most creative and original comic working today.” Audiences probably know her best as the star of a series of Target holiday commercials in which she plays dual roles—aggressive mom determined to be first in line, and ordinary mom content to get there when she gets there. Her first album, Unwanted Thoughts Syndrome, hit stores in April, 2009, winning great praise from critics and brisk sales among fans.

8. Natasha Leggero

Leggero trained as an actress at the Stella Adler Conservatory and attended Hunter College in New York, earning a degree in theater criticism, but she didn’t discover her true passion and calling until she did a few stand-up routines at open-mic nights in Los Angeles. Audiences know her best as a regular roundtable guest on “Chelsea Lately,” and she has traveled with the “Comics of Chelsea Lately” tour. She has received excellent reviews for appearances on all of the late night talk shows and for hour-long specials on Comedy Central and VH-1.

9. Heather McDonald

Best known as a writer and roundtable regular on “Chelsea Lately,” Heather McDonald has done guest appearances on Frasier, Malcolm in the Middle, Reno 911, Drake and Josh, Quintuplets and WatchingEllie. Readers of Us Weekly, know her as the author of the outrageously funny and strangely right-on “Fashion Police.” McDonald tours about twenty weeks per year, and she has sold-out some of America’s premier venues, including Carnegie Hall, The Borgota in Atlantic City, The Pearl in the Palms Casino, The Fillmore in Miami, The DAR in Washington DC and The Fox Theatre in Atlanta.

Another “Chelsea Lately” writer and regular, Sarah Colonna also has leant her talents to ”The United States of Tara,” “Monk,” “Strong Medicine,” and “Invasion.” She first gained nationwide attention as a semi-finalist on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing,” but audiences probably best remember her for her work on SciFi channel’s popular hidden camera show, “Scare Tactics,” with hosts Shannen Doherty and Tracy Morgan.
