On marriage, pomp and ceremony
"I do believe in the institution of marriage, wholeheartedly," declares Vidya. "I have it all planned out in my head - I'll have this simple ceremony for my marriage, somewhere quiet and serene, with only close friends and family around for company - I believe a wedding is so pure, that there shouldn't be a crowd. Of course, I'll wear a heavy Kanjeevaram with very simple makeup and traditional jewellery. And after the wedding, we'll host a big gala for everyone - colleagues, fraternity and not-so-close friends! Now all I need is the groom, and I'll be sorted!"

Weighty matters
"In the beginning, a comment about the way I look, be it my weight or my dress sense, used to send me scurrying for shelter - no more now. When it comes to my body, I like to make something very clear - I am a woman, and while I do like to be fit and healthy, I still do want to look like a woman - and curves are what make me a woman. Indian women need to be proud of their curves, and that's that!"

My diet
"I eat to live and not the other way around. As a vegetarian, I'm not at all fussy about food and can make do with anything. I start my day with papaya - I'm a huge papaya fan. I have it plain or as a smoothie. For breakfast, I have cereal. Lunch consists of dal, vegetables and a couple of wholewheat rotis. I don't generally snack, but if I feel hungry in between, I just have some fruit or nuts. Dinner is usually salad and some cooked vegetables. I know it's not healthy, but I often end up skipping dinner. Black coffee is the latest fad I have picked up. Then there are my endless cups of chai! I'm trying to cut down and keep it to no more than three cups a day. Indian sweets are a weakness for me; I don't gorge on them, though."

Style mantras
"I like all things natural, and I love being Indian. So clothes- wise I love wearing Indian. Does my wearing a salwar kameez instead of a dress make me less of an actor, less of a person? My so-called bad dress-sense phase happened when I was confused - I think I was taking advice all too often, without listening to my inner voice. Add to the fact that I was a little overweight; so every wrong 'outfit' got compounded all that much. But now, I know myself, I know what I want to wear - and I love the compliments!"

Future projects
"Next in line is Ishqiya with Arshad Warsi and Naseeruddin Shah. I will also be working on Chenab Gandhi , directed by Vibhu Puri and written by Bhavani Iyer (of Black fame). Chand Bhai, another project opposite Akshay Kumar, is a film based on juvenile delinquency and directed by Nikhil Advani."
